A Slow Travel Escape

Birch Cottage, Brockwier.

Nestled in the Wye Valley, Birch Cottage is an eco-friendly retreat for those looking for a peaceful place. Here you can enjoy watching the morning mist across the valley, an afternoon walk along a local footpath, followed by a revitalising sauna and an evening by the fire.

Birch Cottage is available for bookings year-round. Whether for a weekend retreat or longer stay.

Sustainable Living

The earthen cob flooring provides warmth underfoot, while the kitchen, crafted from reclaimed local ash and pallet wood, has a rustic charm. Heat and hot water are provided by a log-burning back boiler and  solar thermal panels.

The garden with dry stone walls provides habitat for wildlife and harvested rainwater is collected to use on the garden.

Offa’s Dyke Path

Offa’s Dyke Path runs past Birch Cottage. The trails takes you towards Tintern Abbey’s gothic ruins and the ancient woods of the Forest of Dean.

A Night Sky Unspoiled by Artificial Light

Birch Cottage avoids artificial lighting outdoors, which means the night sky is unspoiled by light pollution. The patio fire pit offers the perfect place to watch the sun setting and then the star twinkling as night falls.

There is a woodland sauna and cold shower – also a great spot to see the starry skies.

A Place to Unplug, Unwind, and Reconnect

Birch Cottage is for those who looking to experience the stillness of nature, explore the labyrinth of footpaths or visit any of the local sights. The added benefit is coming back to a sauna to sooth the aching muscles after a day out and about.
